About Us
Our mission is to preserve the Shuar culture and the astounding diversity of their beautiful rainforest home. We do this by helping the Shuar communities find ways of sustainable living and by raising money towards the creation of an Ethno-Biological preserve (pdf).
ANANK
A Shuar elder from the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest, Anank currently lives in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. His mission in life is to help his people and to preserve the beautiful rainforest where he was born. Jumping at any opportunity to speak to students of all ages, Anank often can be found in the classroom lecturing on a wide range of topics. He teaches the younger students about the plants and animals of the forest. He talks to older students about Indigenous Permaculture or about the healing properties of North and South American plants. You may also find him singing and dancing or teaching them to meditate. When talking to students about the wonders of the rainforest, Anank hopes he will inspire them to take interest in preserving such a magical and beautiful place. You may contact him by sending an email to natem@nunkui-shuar.org

RAÚL
Currently living in Spain, Raúl returns to Ecuador every September-October with a group of European volunteers that work with Shuar communities. Raúl began his career in activism at a very young age and continues to be quite driven. He works with the Shuar to find methods of sustainable living such as selling their traditional hand-made crafts. Raúl also attends many conferences throughout Europe taking any opportunity available to spread the word about what is happening to the rainforest and to raise money for this noble cause.
